Thanksgiving

9.10.10

We decided to have our Turkey dinner today (Sat) because the rest of the weekend was completely FULL. Family gatherings, three photo sessions, church etc. and three boys who will not get one nap. I am one of those moms who HAS to put my kids down for naps every day right on schedule. They love their routine - AND their rest.

Anyway, we had a FABULOUS Thanksgiving dinner. It couldn't have been any better. It was our first family turkey dinner in over 3+ years. Plus, last Thanksgiving we were in Ryan's parents house for a couple of months. And one other special thing about this year, was that it was our very first Thanksgiving as a family of 5. As much as I love to entertain and love having people over often for meals, we decided this year would be just the 5 of us. Plus, we're going out tomorrow to Winnipeg for another turkey dinner with Ryan's side of the family. Always a crowd and always good to see everyone again.

It was such a beautiful day we decided to spend it outside, and we all sat together saying all of the things we were thankful for, prayed, then went inside to eat. Ryan's favorite words "the best food he's ever had :D"

I always like to do a new recipe every year. This year I did cornbread instead of buns. We all LOVED it. It will definitely be a traditional dish in our home. I find it so fun incorporating both mine and Ryan's childhood traditions as well as new ones along the way. I was looking on google for traditional Thanksgiving dinner and I was quite surprised to hear that cornbread is a popular dish at Thanksgiving in the south.

Next year I would love to try green bean casserole. Have a deep fall color table cloth and work on making my own centerpiece.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!
